Life Cycle Perspective

As a starting point for all considerations on Eco-Conscious Design, one has to look at all the environmental impacts in the total life-cycle of the product.


The environmental impacts in the different stages in a products life-cycle are generated e.g. from :
  • inputs like energy and raw materials
  • outputs like emissions to earth, air and water
  • production of solid waste
  • problems with the occupational health and safety


Seen in the broad perspective the goal is to maintain the life-cycle of products with a minimum input of energy and raw materials, and with a minimum output of hazardous substances and waste.
