Environmental Calculator I

(Quick Assessment)

Introduction

This is a tool intended to be used in the early design-stages, where different solutions are being considered, and the environmental implications of choosing one or the other needs to be reviewed.

It relies on Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) data for materials, common electronic components, processes and End-of-Life scenarios. From these LCI-data the E-parameter (primary energy used) and the R-parameter (draw on resources) have been calculated (see further explanation here). The principle and the data are the same as used in Environmental Calculator II, but without the further facilities of this tool (Material Declarations, checking for banned or restricted substances etc.).

From the tool's predefined graphs it is possible to get an overview of the magnitude of the E- and R-parameters from different life cycles.

User Guide

Download the Environmental Calculator I from the Download Page , and follow the instructions in the sheet "How to do"

If two design-alternatives should be compared, make a new spreadsheet with data from the other alternative.

For a discussion on interpretation and comparison of E- and R-parameter, please read here.
